Grain Varieties for Alberta and British Columbia, 2010
This is a pilot website under construction...feedback and questions are greatly appreciated
Information provided on this web-site is provided to assist grain growers in choosing the best adapted varieties for their production fields of cereals, oilseeds and pulse crops in the varied production conditions found throughout Alberta and British Columbia.
Who creates the Alberta / British Columbia Grain Variety Information?
Information provided in this interactive web-site is collected from trials coordinated and managed by the Alberta / British Columbia Grains Advisory Committee (ABCGAC), a collaborative group of partners from industry, seed companies, grain producer groups, government, applied research organisations, University and private enterprise, who all have the common goal of providing the best possible scientifically based descriptions of grain variety adaptation in the two provinces.
Support for the Regional Variety Testing (RVT) system
Management support of the ABCGAC system includes both financial and in-kind support from many sources, including: (a) The management committee of ABCGAC itself, consisting of over 20 representatives from the many agencies described above. This committee oversees the entire program, and all technical aspects of the testing and reporting system. (b) Alberta
Agriculture and Rural Development (Government of Alberta) which supervises the program manager, who carries out the program with regional site collaborators. (c) Seed companies pay entry fees to cover the costs of the annual testing. (d) Research agencies and seed business and grower groups provide grants to the program
